Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan, a beautiful and married woman who lives across the bay in East Egg, a more fashionable and aristocratic area. Gatsby throws lavish parties every weekend, hoping to attract Daisy’s attention and win her back. He also befriends Nick Carraway, Daisy’s cousin and the narrator of the novel, who rents a small house next to Gatsby’s.
